Seniors' Housing

Older adults can access programs and services to help them stay in their own homes. There are also housing options that offer support to older adults living independently. If an older adult can no longer live on their own, there are care homes and facilities that can meet their needs for various levels of care.

  • Older adults have the right to decide how they want to live and whether to accept or refuse support, assistance or protection. This is the case as long as they are not harming themselves or others and have the capacity to make these decisions.
  • Older adults are presumed to have capacity to make decisions about where and how they live. The contrary must be shown for this not to be the case.
  • When older adults are unable to care for themselves, they are entitled to receive support or protection in a manner that is the least restrictive and intrusive. They are still entitled to be informed about decisions affecting them and, to the best of their ability, to continue to participate in such decisions.

Options for Independent & Assisted Living

If you are an older adult and you need help around the house, there are services that you can access. These services can help you stay in your home even if you are having difficulty managing completely on your own. There are also housing options designed specifically for older adults.

Care Homes & Special Care Homes

Realizing that you or a loved one can no longer live independently can be a difficult time. Information about the options available, the types of care offered and the cost can help.
